Nottingham Forest are edging closer to a deal for James McAtee from Manchester City, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations are in their final stages following an initial £25 million bid that was rejected, with City reportedly holding out for around £40 million.
Despite Pep Guardiola wishing to retain the 22-year-old, McAtee is keen to leave in pursuit of regular first-team football. Forest are confident a fee in the region of £35 million would be enough to secure the transfer.
McAtee, who captained England’s Under-21s to European Championship success this summer, featured in 27 games for City during the 2024–25 season, scoring 7 goals. His limited playing time at the Etihad signals a move is likely imminent.
