Barcelona is closely monitoring a potential transfer deal between AS Roma and Real Betis, as it could provide much-needed funds to help the club register its new signings for the upcoming season.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Roma is targeting Moroccan winger Abde Ezzalzouli, currently at Real Betis and formerly of Barcelona.
If the deal goes through, Barcelona will receive a financial windfall thanks to a sell-on clause agreed when Ezzalzouli left the club. The winger joined Real Betis from Barcelona in the summer of 2023 for €7.5 million, with Barça retaining 50% of any future sale.
However, as part of the transfer of Vitor Roque from Barcelona to Palmeiras, Real Betis acquired 30% of Barcelona’s sell-on rights for Ezzalzouli. That leaves the Catalan club with a 20% stake in any future sale.
Reports suggest Roma could make a move worth €20 million for Ezzalzouli. If that happens, Barcelona would pocket €4 million — a modest amount, but one that could be crucial in helping the club comply with La Liga’s financial regulations and register their latest acquisitions.
This summer, Barcelona has already signed goalkeeper Joan García from Espanyol and forward Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. Yet the club is still struggling to officially register its new arrivals due to strict salary cap rules.
In an effort to resolve the issue, Barcelona is also aiming to generate €100 million in revenue from season ticket sales at the new Spotify Camp Nou.
